One-Bowl Deep-Clean Routine for Bottles and Pump Parts

One bowl. Full reset. This routine removes milk fats and proteins fast and preps parts for sterilising. Use daily when feeding often.

What You Need

  • Large clean bowl or basin
  • Warm water (not boiling)
  • Bottle cleanser tablet or mild baby-safe liquid cleanser
  • Bottle brush + teat/valve brush
  • Clean drying rack or paper towel
Tip: Dedicate brushes to baby items only.

Step-by-Step Deep Clean

  1. Disassemble. Separate bottles, rings, teats, valves, and pump parts.
  2. Pre-rinse. Rinse parts under running water to remove milk.
  3. Soak. Fill bowl with warm water. Dissolve one tablet or add cleanser. Submerge parts for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Scrub. Use bottle brush for bodies and small brush for teats/valves. Focus on threads and vents.
  5. Rinse well. Run each part under clean water for at least 10 seconds.
  6. Air-dry. Place on a clean rack. Do not towel-dry.
  7. Sterilise. For newborns or illness, follow with your preferred sterilising method.

Routine Timing

  • Daily: Deep clean if used multiple times.
  • After travel/work: Wipe on-the-go, then run this routine at home.
  • Newborn/ill baby: Deep clean + sterilise after every use.
Tip: If short on time, soak with a tablet while you prep feeds.

Tablets vs Liquid for the Bowl

Tablets give measured strength and low residue. Liquid is flexible but easy to overuse. Either works if you rinse thoroughly.

How to Clean Baby Bottles Correctly

  • Disassemble, soak, scrub, rinse, air-dry, sterilise.
  • Use dedicated brushes and a clean rack.
  • Store dry in a closed container after cooling.

FAQs

Can I use the kitchen sink instead of a bowl?

Yes if the sink is freshly cleaned. A separate bowl avoids cross-contamination.

Do I need hot or warm water?

Warm water helps dissolve residue without damaging parts. Follow the cleanser’s label.

Should I towel-dry?

No. Air-dry on a clean rack to avoid lint and recontamination.

When should I sterilise after this routine?

Sterilise daily for newborns or after illness. Otherwise, follow your pediatric guidance.
